π¦ This is the magnificent Common Bluetail (Ischnura elegans), a small dragonfly. It gracefully perched on a small branch at the Europe Lake in Gersthofen and enjoyed the last sunrays in the evening. πΈβ¨ This close-up macro shot with my new 100mm reveals the shiny blue and black colors it is famous for.
The dragonfly has a total body length of 30-33 mm and at max a wingspan of 30-40 mm. In the picture you can bearly see its little hands, with which it grasps the branch. The most distinct trait, this dragonfly species has, is the fully black abdomen expect for the eigth segment at the end, which is blue. You can see the blue spot in the back, which marks the end of its tail, in this picture. πΏπΈβ¨
