Cryptography in the classic sense of the word therefore refers to methods of writing messages in such a way that they remain “hidden”, i.e. cannot be read by unauthorised persons. The “security objective” referred to here is called “confidentiality” or “secrecy” or “concelation” (concelare (latin): to conceal carefully, in English: conceal).
